What This Blog is About

This blog is intended to highlight African bodybuilders. Africa has hundreds if not thousands of excellent bodybuilders, but they receive no recogtnition from most of the bodybuilding world because they are unknown outside their continent. We hope in some small way to remedy this situation.

The first photo is of Madou, one of the champions of Cote d'Ivoire, West Africa. Handsome and well-built, he perhaps better than any of his fellow bodybuilders in Cote d'Ivoire, seems to understand contest preparation. In the last two years he has been one of the most defined posers on stage. From time to time in this blog you'll see other photos of him. For now, consider this merely an introduction.

Here's a Real Champion ! Alexis DJEKOUDSE

AlexisDJEKOUDSE is from Benin, one of Africa's French-speaking nations. He has won several competitions, and even beat the Nigerian bodybuilders in at least one, this despite the fact that Alexis is a light-weight. With a little bit of luck -- and perhaps some generous help with travel expenses for him sometime in the future -- maybe we'll see him in one of the Musclemania competitions later.

Here are some photos I took early in November 2008 at the ABBCI "Woody" competition in Grand Bassam, Cote d'Ivoire. Alex is a real champion.

Bodybuilders and ABBCI Beginning to Get Known

A brief note -- I see signs that the ABBCI (the Association de Bodybuilding de Cote d'Ivoire)_ and the bodybuiloders who competed this past year are beginning to be much more widely noticed. This is great because the bodybuilders work out with great disadvantages compared to those in the United States, and deserve the recognition for all their hard work.

More power, fame and success to them !

More Workout Pics

At the risk of many of these images seeming redundant, I am posting nearly all the pics I took at this small Abidjan gym, These are the conditions under which the lucky guys who can afford gym membership can work out. Others with less money work out in backyards, with flywheels for weights. Almost no one has nutritional supplements -- they are too expensive these days for the majority of Cote d'Ivoire's bodybuilders.
